I added decals from 2 different planes together because I thought the original decals were too plain. Decals that were added are the numbers, stripes on the wings and vertical stabilizers, and the stripes on the tail. It's not historically accurate but I never care about that. Needs clearcoated and then I'll work on weathering it.
Forgot to add this model's mold was stamped 1963 so it's an oldie. Altogether it fit really well and initially the wheels folded up along with the wings folding but I found they were too flimsy and breakable so I glued them in place. Wings obviously still fold although they're a little off from what an actual F-6 wings folded looks like. Still can't find models like this nowadays.
I don't think they make models where you can fold the wings and put the wheels up and what not. But then again, I think many models went from the "To be played with" category to the "To be looked at" category. As you know, I collect action figures and most of them are not really suited for playing. The detail on them is awesome but because of that detail they are a bit on the fragile side.
I know there are models you can model with the wings in the folded position. But I haven't seen any either that allow you to open or close them. It was a neat design and actually really worked well. I probably screwed up the landing gear a bit but that's ok because I would never have the wheels up anyway. I'm working on the new A-6 now and unfortunately I won the auction for the standard model when I had also found one with the option to have the wings folded. Alas I had already bid on the first one.
When I build my planes they are generally in the wheels down configuration because they end up getting displayed somewhere that's not hanging on the ceiling.
It's hard to find a model that can easily be modeled wheels up also. I wanted to do the B-24 wheels up but the parts just didn't fit right and it would have looked like a mess. I am working on a 72nd BF109 which I put the wheels up. Actually looking pretty good since it was something I had laying around with no instructions and it only has about 6 decals. It's definitely another super old model but it looks pretty cool with 2 sessions of airbrushing so far.
